Toolbar Grid

The main grid contains your active toolbar items. By default that includes the 10 type selectors plus the Same button for matching the active layer's type.

Click any button to select all matching layers. The grid automatically adapts its column count and button size to fill the available space.

The full shipped item list lives in the Controls Reference.

Top Bar

The top bar holds the panel title and version on the left, and action buttons on the right:

  • Name Search opens a modal to select layers by name.
  • Functions opens the pattern and relationship menu.
  • Locked toggle includes or excludes locked layers.
  • Shy toggle includes or excludes shy layers.
  • Settings opens the layout customization editor.

Functions Menu

The Functions button opens a menu with actions that don't belong in the main toolbar grid: pattern selections like Odd, Even, and Every Nth, plus hierarchy actions like Children and Siblings.

Behavior details are in Functions & Relationships. You can rearrange or disable items through Layout Customization.

Responsive Behavior

Picky adapts to the panel frame size:

  • Standard and larger shows labels, title, version badge, and hotkey hints.
  • Medium tightens padding, collapses labels, and hides secondary UI.
  • Narrow hides the Functions button and search when there isn’t enough width.
  • Very narrow triggers dock-strip mode.

The medium state is where Picky starts feeling compressed but still stays fully usable. Buttons keep their one-click behavior, but the panel trims visual extras first: tighter spacing, less text, and fewer secondary controls.

At narrower widths, Picky hides search and the Functions button before it falls all the way to dock-strip mode.

Dock-Strip Mode

When the panel width drops below ~140px (near CEP's minimum), Picky collapses into a single vertical icon column.

  • Only toolbar icons are shown. Labels and the top bar are hidden.
  • Functions, search, filters, and settings are hidden.

This mode is for keeping Picky tucked into a tight dock while still giving you one-click type selection.

Hotkey Hint

When there’s enough room, Picky shows a modifier reminder at the bottom: Shift add · Alt subtract · Cmd/Ctrl toggle. It hides automatically in tighter layouts, but the behavior itself stays the same. See Selection Modes for details.

Settings Surface

The Settings button opens Picky’s layout editor. See Layout Customization for the editor surfaces and drag rules.
