Adding Images
There are three ways to insert an image:
- Drag and drop an image file onto the panel.
- Paste an image from the clipboard (Cmd/Ctrl+V).
- Slash command by typing
/imageand selecting Image from the menu.
All three methods save the image to disk and display it inline. Single images appear as standalone blocks. Click any image to open it in a full-size lightbox.
Image Storage
By default, images are saved to a Motion Fun/noted-images/ folder next to your .aep project file. This means images travel with the project when you move or archive it.
If the project hasn’t been saved yet, or if the “Save Images to Project Folder” setting is off, images fall back to a global directory:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/MotionFun/Noted/images/ - Windows:
%APPDATA%/MotionFun/Noted/images/
Images are also imported as footage items into your After Effects project under __MotionFun__/Noted Images for easy access.
Duplicate detection is built in. If you drop the same image twice, Noted reuses the existing file instead of creating a copy.
Image Grids
When you drop or paste multiple images at once, Noted creates an image grid instead of inserting them individually.
Grid Controls
Each grid block has a top bar with controls:
- Column selector (grid icon) opens a dropdown to choose 1, 2, 3, or 4 columns. The default column count is configurable in settings.
- Add button (+) opens a file picker to add more images to the grid.
Each image cell has a remove button (X) that appears on hover. Removing the last image deletes the grid block entirely.
Grid images also open the lightbox when clicked, just like standalone images.
Inserting an Empty Grid
Type /image grid in the slash menu to insert an empty grid block. Drop or pick images into it afterwards.
Adding Images to an Existing Grid
Drop image files directly onto a grid, or click the + button in the grid’s top bar.
Removing Images
Hover over an image in the grid and click the X button.
Drag Overlay
When dragging files over the panel, a drop overlay appears:
- For a single image, it shows “Drop image.”
- For multiple images, it shows a grid preview with the file count.
